All coached athletes will have a personal training package based on individual requirements and abilities.
Coached athletes will, as part of their coaching package, have provided to them a Premium Client Training Peaks account. This account is easy to use and will form the central method of communication between the client and the coach. The account allows the coach to schedule and alter the weekly training programme and the detailed workout (or rest day!) is emailed to the client on a daily basis. The client will update this system following training and where possible upload their HR/Power data files for review by the coach; in doing so the system automatically alerts the coach and the data can be reviewed online.
The approach taken by VeloTraining utilises modern technology and where possible every effort is made to make communication simple, convenient, and paper free. Coached athletes are expected to use a PC with Internet access, preferably broadband. VeloTraining encourages the use of power measuring equipment though this is not essential . However, as a minimum, athletes should have available and be familiar with the use of a downloadable heart rate monitor. Athletes are encouraged to use the TrainingPeaks WKO+ package for recording and analysing their training and this greatly facilitates data upload and review. VeloTraining will provide, as part of a coaching package, support in the setup and use of this software (which must be purchased by the client).
Increasingly VeloTraining is making use of video conferencing which is now widely available and there are a number of excellent free services which can be easily accessed using a modern PC or laptop, a broadband connection, and a simple webcam. The use of these facilities is clearly not mandatory but excellent client/coach communication is vital and "face to face" contact rather than just telephone and email can make all the difference, and it saves an awful lot of typing.
